Chapter 16: The Foundation Years
(Practical ideas and
methods for teaching children through the physical years: the first six
years of a child's life)
'The
first six—generally, the pre-school—years of a child’s
life are the most important for establishing a direction that will
last him a lifetime. Care should be taken to inculcate in him wholesome
habits, tastes, and attitudes. It is during these years especially
that the adage holds: “As the twig inclineth, so doth the tree
grow.” '

Chapter 17: The
Feeling Years (Practical
ideas and methods for teaching children through the feeling years: the
years six to twelve of a child's life)
In the feeling years emphasis
is placed on emotional development and inspiration. Not on expressing
emotions but on refining them and developing the finer feelings. This
is aimed at helping children to begin to direct their emotions constructively,
instead of letting them rule them.
Practical ideas and methods for this are offered in this chapter which
is best read in full. |
